CATERILLAR D4-7U BULLDOZER USING A HONDA 6.5HP MOTOR TO START THE PONY MOTOR

We first marked the holes for the Honda 6.5hp petrol motor so it would slide on springs located underneath. Better still if you use as centrifugal clutch pulley then you can bolts diectly onto the frame. We used a 50+ V pulley belt commonly costing in NZ @ $28. The rest is bolts with srping underneath to push the motor once the pony starts.
You can see we line a steel plate to run the Oxy/LPG
gas cutter as we do not have wheels.
Locator holes finished and ready to clean the holes and locate the Hona motor. We actually made a pull lever to pull the motor towards the outside so the belt will tension. You must push back once the pony motor engages.

Remember this bulldozer does not use a battery as the magneto does the work of the normal distributor and spark etc. Once awake you need to keep the Pony running until the water heats up to the main motor and the head at the rear of the main motor is warm. Especially when starting in real cold weather this is important. The pull rope start is a headache-- you start it clockwise. We changed to a Honda start motor for this machine. Remember we are back yard bush mechanics but have had a few machines and this works great!!!

Using small motors with a smaller v pulley you can now start the pony effertlessly. There are many versions but we used this 6.5hp Honda Motor with a 50+ V pulley belt to start the pony motor. No more pull starts rapping the rope around the pony start

THIS IS AN ELECTRIC START pony motor using a starter with pre start ignition and beding the starter arm to engage the flywheel pulleys. You can also use a Briggs & Stratton lawnmower motor with pull start to make it easy as the old pull start is a pain. Try to use a centrifigual cluth so you dont need to pull out the lever once the pony starts
