HITACHI

UH041 EXCAVATOR REBUILDING SPROCKETS

To have your sprockets redone the cost is around $400NZ PER EACH

plus $NZ200 to send to AUCKLAND AND RETURN.

KJ Excavator provides track links for Korean and Japanese models.  These track links fit various sizes and capacity of track mounted vehicles.  They range in pitch from 135 mm to 215 mm.  They are available in both sealed and dry type.

However sprockets are a pain to take off these Hitachi unlike a Komatsu which one can unbolt then bolt on a new sprocket. However its not hard to do. The sprocket height is approx 3.5cm from the bottom of the sprocket valley so you need to weld it up using HIGH TENSILE 12MM rebars which are hardened steel. If you use normal mild steel welding rods [arc ] then the sprocket teeth will wear down quick so the answer is to use low hydrogen rods which allow hardening so you will need a good arc welded to do the job. Just cut the rebars to the width of the teeth allowing for extra either side as this can all be grinded down once the welding is finished.

Rebars are 2 grades: Grade 300 [ mild steel ] & Grade 600: high tensile steel bars.

Use the 600 series.

Low-hydrogen welding rods or "low-hy" electrodes are manufactured to contain less than 0.6% of moisture in the covering. Its low hydrogen content ensures a smooth, strong weld that is very ductile, making it the welding rod of choice for structural welding jobs.

With any welding job It is important to maintain your rods or electrodes within a temperature range of 100°F and 300°F. This temperature range has been determined by the welding industry to be adequate to prevent atmospheric moisture from entering the welding rod coating and subsequently entering the weld during the welding process. Check out Weldwell: http://www.weldwell.co.nz/Products.aspx?category=15&name=LOW%20HYDROGEN&Page=1

The above welding the rebars 1/2 " on the top of the teeth of the sprocket. You then need to fill and build up on the teeth and then grind the teeth later once you are happy with the insert height. At the same time you can check your rollers as well for free movement and if they need bearings again do the job as well. Also the tracks and links to check as once the sprocket wear then chances are a few other items will have problems and wear as well.

Remember some things you can save by doing yourself!!!!!

The finished sprocket blasted then enamel painted to protect the steel

Our right side sprockets need rebuilding. We use steel HIGH TENSILE REBARS & low

hydrogen rods for welding to give that outer hardening. However we are also looking for good used

sprockets to fit and any other parts.
