but are they right

DEER POISONED WITH 1080 CAN EXPERIENCE EXPLODED INTERNAL ORGANS, THEY TEAR OPEN THEIR OWN STOMACHS WITH THEIR ANTLERS, BLOOD OOZES FROM EYES & NOSE & THEIR EYES POP OUT

OSPRI - a govt department and poisoning agency - declare that 92% of deer were poisoned in a recent aerial operation across part of Molesworth Station, situated in the South Island. This is what our NZ Government is doing.

However, the comment in the news item that states that more deer die in open areas than in the forests following 1080 poison drops, is incorrect. Deer in poisoned forests die in high numbers following the operations, as we have proven over the last 13 years of filming poison drops. The baits are cast all across the forests and waterways, and the deer are more likely to be poisoned in the forests because the baits offer a more easy meal. Deer in more open terrain have more access to grass, their favourite food, so are better nourished. In any case, the poison bait is an attractive cereal food that most animals and many birds love to eat.

Less than 2 x standard sized baits can kill a deer, and just 2 and a half baits can kill a 400 kilo cattle beast (research presented here ... https://youtu.be/9EmNIR1iBrk ) And according to our Govt-owned poison factory, just 1 x standard sized bait may kill a child.

When we investigate poison drops in heavy forests, the deer kill rate is estimated to be between 75 - 95%, depending whether the operation is the first - a virgin drop - or a repeated, on-going poisoning program.

Here's the declaration about the deer poisoned at Molesworth Station. Good on OSPRI for being honest about it, it makes a pleasant change ... https://www.odt.co.nz/…/1080-drop-wiped-out-deer-nzs-larges…

The Department of Conservation is planning to aerially spread 1080 poison across more than 1 million hectares of forests and waterways over the coming year. That equates to enough poison to kill over 60 million people.

This poison is leaching into the aquifers that are positioned (and drained) all across New Zealand. What water do you drink? If I were you, I'd target tank water or rain capture - not spring water or aquifers. This annual poison dump is heading your way (like all the others), there's no doubt about it. It's time to start testing spring water to parts per trillion, just like is done in the UK with drinking water....Quote Graf Bros

OSPRI/TBFree will be doing its own slaughter campaign. -OSPRI 1080 ops

https://ospri.co.nz/…/TBfree-Pest-Control-Operations-Consul…

Also remember that Predator Free 2050 are involved in BFOB, and they have this 'terrific' new method where they drop 4 kgs of 1080 baits per ha, not the usual 2 kgs and, if every last rat, stoat, possum isn't gone, then in three months they drop another 4 kgs per ha.

If we assume some of these drops are 4 kgs per ha, or even 8 kgs per ha, we can safely assume around 4 tonnes (1) of PURE 1080 poison will be dropped, contained in the cereal baits. ( Each bait contains 0.15% pure 1080 poison ). This is enough 1080 to kill over 60 million people and make another 60 million people very, very ill ! Or, to put it another way, the Nazi Holocaust of World War 2 killed an estimated 17 million people. This amount of poison has the capability of killing almost 4 times that number.

Note : The LD50 ( Lethal Dose 50% ) for humans, as declared by our state-owned 1080 bait factory in Whanganui, is 0.7 to 2 mgs per kg bodyweight .

To all Tourists visiting NZ be careful in the wild. Do not drink water in contaminated areas & wash your hands before eating? Please send us any pictures and info if you come across animals and birdlife you find are being poisoned. We also welcome your emails in the name of saving our native species.

The Russell State Forest Collapse Myth

BY Brad Flutey

It’s true that calling oneself “a Greenie” comes with responsibilities and these involve taking a holistic approach and creating sustainable and compassionate solutions for all the inhabitants relying on the forest. Whether they need the forest for food, for their livelihood, their pleasure, or their future—no matter where they came from and no matter how long they’ve been here. In another sense this stands true for all species including those harvested from the forest. It is about working together. And poison is best kept out of the mix.

“The lead up to a 1080 operation is ugly, it turns family, communities and hapū against one another. Those who know in their gut that this is wrong tussle with people who abandon their instincts, ethics and the responsibility of checking the science, thereby trusting in the opinions of so called 'experts'. The aftermath is equally repugnant, as allegations fly around of hapū representative bribery, lack of consultation and corruption.

This divides the people who need to come together for the preservation of life in their rohe through means that maintain the integrity of their world view. Let’s be clear, spreading almost 100 kilograms of a metabolic poison [the pure poison; not the cereal pellets] that is toxic to all organisms, that wouldn't normally be exposed to it over the whenua is not in line with the Māori world view. It's also not necessary, not cost effective and detrimental to the forming of sustainable living models and alternative methods that are in line with the Māori world view. What really rubbed salt into the wounds created by the ignorance of those promoting this operation, is the fact that it didn't work. I know this because I live and trap from the centre of the forest and other trappers in the area talk.”

However, Dean Baigent-Mercer is a compulsive liar, with little to no educational or working background in ecology or horticulture. Yet, Forest and Bird promote him as being the 'dread-locked version of David Attenborough with attitude'. An incredibly disrespectful and arrogant label to place on an opinionated land-owner who thinks that because he practices pest control on his property and plants a few Harakeke, he can make anti-science claims about an entire ecosystem. However, I will give credit where credit is due, Mr Baigent-Mercer is a clever manipulator and a good public speaker and has utilized these skills to get him to where he is today. It's safe to say that there has been more benefit for Mr Baigent-Mercer's profile than there has been for the Russell State forest.

GLYSOPHATE

Chemical pesticides are increasingly shown to have a negative impact on human health. And the combination of different pesticides (known as the ‘cocktail affect’), is also under international scientific scrutiny.

In this important new article about the harm to humans from Glyphosate (‘Round up’), scientists fed small amounts of the pesticide to rats over 2 years. The experiment concluded that pesticides are building up in our food chain, and impacting negatively on our health:

“The pesticide industry claims that high urine levels are a positive thing because the body is successfully excreting the chemical. However, this notion is contradicted by research led by Dr Monika Kruger in Germany. Dr Kruger found that glyphosate levels in a range of organs in dairy cows was very similar to that in urine. This suggests that glyphosate can accumulate in the body. In addition, chronically ill people had higher glyphosate residue levels in their urine than healthy humans, suggesting that high glyphosate excretion levels are not a healthy sign.”

New Zealand’s Dept of Conservation and other Government agencies like the Ministry of Health make the same claim about 1080 poison - that it is quickly ‘excreted’ in urine, so doesn’t cause any harm. However, none of these agencies undertake any surveillance or health monitoring of staff or contractors involved in handling 1080 poison, even though it has been shown in the past that some staff have been subjected to the potential impact from 1080 poisoning when it was found in their urine.

Is it likely that similar experiments to this European one on Glyphosate, using sub lethal doses of 1080 poison, over a prolonged time, would uncover the same links between exposure and chronic illnesses?

Maybe one day the true extent of the impact on public health from aerial 1080 poison operations will be known. But those studies won’t come from European scientists because of course, 1080 poison is already banned there, due to the known risks...

"WILL NEW ZEALAND'S DEPT OF CONSERVATION WIN AGAINST RODENTS AND STOATS WITH 1080 POISON ?"

From: FB 9/5/19 Carol Sawyer & ( Greymouth Star, 7 May 2019 )

Dr Jo Pollard (BSc (Hons), PhD)

The New Zealand government’s Department of Conservation (DoC) is responsible for managing our land and natural resources for the purposes for conservation. The department and its precursors have conducted a campaign that spreads food (cereal or carrot) baits laced with 1080 poison (sodium monofluoroacetate) widely throughout New Zealand’s forests in a sixty year long attempt to reduce numbers of the possum, a marsupial introduced from Australia to form the basis of a fur trade.
During the last 2 decades DoC has increasingly used aerial 1080 poisoning in an attempt to combat rodents as well as possums. Under operations called “Battle for the birds” 600,000 ha was poisoned in 2014, 840,000 ha in 2016 and 600,000 ha in 2017. DoC has now received an extra 81.2 million dollars for pest control and is set to aerially poison the largest area ever targeted: approximately 1 million ha of forest in 2019/2020.
DoC’s current rationale is that it needs to kill rodents and stoats, otherwise these creatures will eat large numbers of native animals after multiplying rapidly in response to masting (seeding) vegetation. Given the enormous cost and wide scale nature of DoC’s aerial poisoning, critical examination of this practice is warranted.
The first rodent species to join New Zealand’s ecological community, the kiore, arrived with Polynesian people in about 1300 AD. Europeans brought the Norway rat about four centuries later, followed by the ship rat in the 1800s. Another rodent, the mouse, also arrived with Europeans in the 1800s. Stoats were introduced from Britain in the 1870s to control rabbits.
Rodents breed rapidly under favourable conditions. Plagues of kiore were familiar to the Polynesian settlers (Maori) and continued into the 1800s, until on NZ’s main islands this rat species was replaced by the European rodents. Plagues of rodents (usually mice, rather than rats, in beech forests) often follow periodic masting events. Rapid population growth can fuel short-term increases in numbers of their major predator, the stoat, which also breeds rapidly under favourable conditions.
DoC and its precursors have pursued a policy of nationwide poisoning for decades with scant evidence of success as measured by increased bird numbers and species removed from the endangered list. Those rare successes that have occurred have invariably involved many other interventions in support of the target species. The research strongly suggests that there are several major flaws in DoC’s claim that aerial poisoning with 1080 will save native animals from rodents and stoats.
1080 does not usually kill mice, in fact mouse numbers are usually observed to rise very soon after aerial poisoning. It is thought that because mice can detect the poison in food baits they avoid eating them. They most likely flourish because rats and other competitors and predators have been killed off and there are ample food resources left in the wake of the poisoning. Unfortunately mice are far from benign, being harmful to native vegetation and populations of both invertebrates and vertebrates.
Rat numbers are supressed after aerial 1080 poisoning – but not for long. Vastly increased numbers usually arise within months, often to levels well above those seen pre-poisoning. These increases can have devastating ecological effects. For example Landcare scientists reported in 2007 “In the poisoned block, the number of large invertebrates known to be eaten by rats soared after rat numbers were reduced to near zero, and then plummeted as rat numbers exploded to very high levels.”
As Landcare scientists Andrea Byrom and others pointed out in 2013, increases in rodents following 1080 poisoning operations create excellent conditions for the proliferation of stoats. At Okarito, on the West Coast of the South Island, a 1080 operation in 2011 was followed by large increases in numbers of mice, then rats, then a stoat plague in late 2012. DoC’s recently published study on kiwi productivity over 22 years at Tongariro shows exactly this same pattern for rats and mice, with rat numbers rising rapidly to very high, stable levels within 18 months of poisoning and stoats increasing steadily. DoC is now using this pattern to justify ever-shorter intervals between poisonings.
Stoats are not reliably killed in 1080 operations because they are carnivores; they don’t eat the cereal or carrot baits and are only killed if they eat poisoned prey. Unfortunately stoats respond to the sudden poisoning off of rat prey by turning to eating native birds. In 2002 DoC reported “Four months after an effective possum and rat knock-down by a 20,000-ha aerial 1080 operation over Tongariro Forest, stoats reappeared in the centre of the forest and began killing kiwi chicks. So far five of the 11 chicks have been predated, and all in the centre of the treatment area.” King & Murphy (2005) reported that “After successful poison operations against rats, there were strong and consistent responses by stoats to eat more birds".
1080 is non-selective. It acts by blocking respiration within cell mitochondria. It is harmful to a very broad range of organisms including bacteria, fungi, plants, nematodes, insects, birds, mammals and snails. Widespread mortality was recorded in the first studies on effects of 1080 on birds; it was reported in 1978 that "it is clear that a wide variety of small birds commonly found in New Zealand's forests and bush are susceptible to 1080 poisoning.” The following bird species have been found dead in areas poisoned with 1080: Australian harrier, weka, pukeko, kaka, kea, morepork, rifleman, NZ pipit, brown creeper, whitehead, grey warbler, fantail, tit, robin, silvereye, kokako, tui, kereru, kakariki and fernbird. But rather than quantifying these losses by measuring numbers of actual birds left alive after poisoning, DoC has reported on the “nesting success” of individuals (which is expected to rise if a population is largely killed off, due to less competition) and bird calls (which are also expected to rise after poisoning if birds are calling for dead mates or searching for new ones).
The endemic species present before the NZ government started its aerial poison onslaughts in the name of conservation had weathered decades of stoats, centuries of rodent plagues and had evolved with masting vegetation and natural avian predators. Predation is a natural ecological phenomenon. In birds, nest predation is a key source of selection pressure and in the presence of predators, individual birds learn to make informed choices regarding nesting sites.

In contrast, poisoning is a wholly unnatural event that wipes out the precious genetic material of rare species. Wholesale poisoning favours the fast breeding, invasive, generalist pest species such as the rat, which eats almost anything. The use of 1080 poison is especially contra-indicated because of its incredibly broad spectrum toxicity and inability to control mice, plus indications that rats will become less and less vulnerable to it: genetic selection for resistance to 1080 has been observed in laboratory rats and individual rats seem to develop tolerance to 1080 after a small dose, unlike other animals.
NZ’s slow breeding, rare, specialised endemic species don’t stand a chance as DoC’s poisoning intensifies. Winning against rats with aerial 1080 poison will be at the expense of everything endemic. American rat biologist Loretta Mayer stated: “Frankly, rodents are the most successful species…after the next holocaust, rats and Twinkies will be the only things left.”
