MINI EXCAVATOR RUBBER TRACKS CHANGED &

HOW TO REPLACE A RUBBER TRACK

If wanting to replace your rubber track on your excavator you need to do the following.

1/. First undo the grease nipple on the front idler arm

2/. To push the idler back you can use a fence post in your bucket, then push back on the track that you wish to replace. This will get the grease out of the idler arm & allow new track to go on and old one off.

3/. Now lift that track up using your bucket on the side parallel to your track

4/. You need a long lever bar to prise off the track from the idler arm first then the rear sprocket will come off easily.

5/. Check your bottom rollers while youre at it if they turn OK or loose and the bearings gone so you can replace as necessary.

INSTALLING YOUR NEW TRACK

1/. New tracks can be hard to put on as not stretched. Always put your track on the rear sprocket first.

2/. Trying to prise on the front track can be hard. On smaller excavators watch out for the bolts at the bottom don't rip your track. In this case you need to prise on the track at the bottom and line them up with your bottom rollers then roll the track around slowly to near where it will go on the idler arm roller.

3/. One thing we found that was useful was using a truck canvas tiedown heavy tensioner pulling the track over in the near front outside & ratcheting it up from the other front side. Ideal if by yourself as you need to drive the track around back to front. You may have to do this a few time as you move your track around but it does work & saves using a lever bar although the bar does come in handy. New tracks are tight and hard so the ratchet is great.

4/. Check the track for tension as can be tight so you need not regrease.

5/. If it needs grease then regrease till your track it at a position youre comfortable with and thats it.
